My name is Alison and I live in Peebles in the Scottish Borders. Welcome to my website dedicated to giving you quick family dinner recipes, and new ideas for your family’s dinner time. Cries of ‘What’s for tea?’ can be heard everyday up and down the country. In my case it often gets asked at breakfast by one of my two boys! If you are anything like me you will have spent time gazing at the supermarket fridges and shelves hopefully expecting an idea to magically appear on the shelf.
I grew up with my Mum cooking everything virtually from scratch. While there were a couple of dishes that didn’t please me, liver and onions, and pearl barley in stew, the rest was tasty and I deemed her a good cook. The kitchen in our house was where lots of delicious smells emanated from. Infact when my Dad walked up the drive on his way home from work, he used to guess what was for dinner. Most of the time he was spot on!
When dinner was cooking I would invariably lift up all the pan lids to see what was going on. I also hoped, that by doing so the food would quicker, as being told dinner was not for another 15 minutes seemed like a lifetime. Especially when I had declared myself ‘starving’.
I now have two hungry boys of of my own. I have never cooked two meals, one for us and one for the boys. They eat what we eat. Not everything however, has been a success with them, notably ‘green sauce’. I made it with creme fraiche and pesto, but had never heard so much complaining over one dinner in my life. It was not the taste that put them off but the colour, so before they had even started it was no good. They still talk about it to this very day, and unsurprisingly, I have not made it again!
I want to show you that cooking healthy family meals, does not need to take ages or cost a fortune. I hope you enjoy exploring my website and get loads of inspiration for your family’s meals.
If you ever have a comment or question, please leave me a message. I read and reply to all emails.
